Cancer. A word that invokes so many emotions for us. Fear, anger, and disappointment are typically at the top of the list. Because many of us have lost loved ones to this terrible disease, we are determined to understand why cancer happens and ultimately how to prevent it from destroying our bodies and our families.

Potential Causes

It’s no wonder we are fearful of cancer. Nearly everything in our path has made it onto a list warning us of its potential to cause cancer. We’ve been told watch out for things like:

  • Cell Phones
  • Deodorant
  • Microwaves
  • Sunlight
  • Sunscreen
  • Sugar

We are exposed to 90% of this list before the leaving the house, so it’s no surprise that panic sets in. We certainly can’t avoid this list of potential dangers, so we begin to wonder if there is something-anything-that can assure us we will be free from diagnosis. As research continues to find the cause of cancer, so does the exploration of a cure.

Searching for a Remedy

Our apprehension and curiosity of cancer paves the way for remedies to spread like wildfire. Among the list of potential remedies? Vitamins.

That makes sense, right? We are told from an early age that vitamins are crucial to our physical well-being. Studies have been done to determine whether vitamin consumption can in fact prevent cancer from forming in our bodies. A study was done at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, specifically targeting the effects of Vitamin D in cancer prevention. While some women in the placebo-controlled trial showed a decrease of cancer development due to vitamin intake, the results were inconclusive. The doctors on this trial determined that we cannot anticipate a cancer-free life by simply taking vitamins.

Consuming vitamins daily while also maintaining a well-balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are all important when it comes to taking care of our bodies. Even still, the best way to ensure our bodies are healthy and happy is to regularly schedule preventative healthcare exams.
